I took engagement pictures with Matt and Christina this week in Amazon Park. There was just enough cloud cover for some great lighting. Take a look:

Here are some pictures from last week's camping trip near Three Creek Lake just south of Sisters. It got pretty windy and that tent you see was blown around quite a bit. We ended up building a wall around it to buffer it from the wind. I would recommend using a four or even three season tent for snow camping. The rain fly on this one works for rain but the blowing snow shot up the sides and the sleeping bags received a nice layer of snow. Luckily there was a stove to dry out our equipment.

I hope you had a good Christmas. We stayed with my in-laws in Salem and then drove out to Yachats and spent more time with them out there. Lucy really enjoyed the Christmas wrapping and boxes. We went to the Newport Aquarium on Christmas Eve. There was hardly anyone there so Lucy was able to get up close with the animals. It's fun to watch her expressions, she watches the animals move around but doesn't seem to understand what she's looking at. She understands cats and dogs but these animal seem to be floating in mid air.

My wife, Michelle, flew to Pennsylvania a couple months ago to visit relatives. At her grandmother's house she noticed a picture of her grandparent's wedding. It was an old black and white photograph, the only photograph taken at the wedding. It had been stashed away for years because the candle stick were all crooked and looked kind of silly hanging there in the background. They threw of the balance of the whole picture. Michelle, realizing that I am a wiz at Photoshop, offered to fix the photograph for her grandmother. Michelle was so excite about being able to restore her grandmother's pride in the old dust photograph. I brought the photo to my studio and scanned it. I had noticed that the whole image itself was slightly tilted so I rotated it and cropped it just a tiny bit. After all those years the colors had shifted slightly so I made small adjustments to make it more vibrant with a richer tone. I then proceeded with the hard part, the candlesticks. I went through them one by one selecting them and rotating them into the correct position. I then had to clean up the areas around them and remove the old candlesticks. Here are the before and after shots:

I flew to New Orleans last week for a photoshoot. I was surprised at the broken-down state of the city as a result of Hurricane Katrina, and it's been two years. Tons of houses were still in ruins and many of the stores were still boarded up. I also noticed that about every eighth house had people outside working on it. Fifth wheels seem to be a popular housing substitute while the home owners are waiting for their homes to be rebuilt. I would love to go back soon and document some of the derelict buildings and see what becomes of them in a couple of years.

I'm flying out to Victoria, BC tomorrow morning. I was hired to photograph a grocery store. I am excited to see Victoria again and will post some pictures once I get back.

Today I hung up some of my fine art photographs at the 5th Street Beanery in Eugene. There are a few 20x30 inch prints of Cape Kiwanda and a few old car pictures. The pictures will be up until the end of August. The Beanery has the best coffee in Eugene and say hi to Sean while you're there. The address is 152 W 5th St. Eugene, Or 97401.

Please welcome Lucy Eleanor Cacka!

Lucy was born Thursday, May 24th 2007 at 11:21 in the morning. She was two weeks earlier than projected and was 8.1 lbs, 20 3/4 inches. She is a healthy baby with lots of dark hair. She developed jaundice and was put under lights but it is nearly all cleared up now. She has a strong grip and a strong neck. Lucy likes to cuddle with her parents and seems to enjoy head butting her mother. Both Michelle and I will be at home for the next couple of weeks taking care of Lucy and adjusting the the new schedule.

We are enjoying her very much.

Our old friends, Josh and Mel, threw a party on Saturday at the Reed Opera House in Salem. It was in celebration of Josh's graduation from law school and also as a way to thank their friends and family for the years of support and encouragement. It's not easy to go through law school, let alone at the top of your class and having a wife and five young children at home. Congratulations!

This last weekend I went out with my father, grandfather and two of his buddies to Wildhorse Canyon near the town of Antelope in Central Oregon. Wildhorse is a Young Life campground which had previously been the property of the guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. We were there to work on weed control for the camp. For this trip we were concentrating our efforts on eliminating the invasive scotch thistle (Onopordum acanthium). My grandfather and his buddies kept busy cutting off the heads of old plants and collecting the seeds, which if left could produce thousands of plants over the next few years. The seed can lay dormant for up to four years before germinating so even if we were to kill all the plants the seeds in those pods could spring up new plants in the next several years. My father and I walked around the property spot spraying the scotch thistle where ever we could find it.
It was a beautiful place and I wouldn't mind going back.

Here are a couple pictures of our trip:

Last week I had the privilege of photographing the Excelsior Inn on 13th Avenue, near U of O. It's a wonderful inn and restaurant. The Excelsior was built in 1912 and had been a sorority house until 1972. It has recently been renovated into a 14 room bed and breakfast. Everything is professionally designed with a European flavor. If you're in the area stop by and have lunch.

Here are some of the pictures I took:
